Just over 17 years ago, my first daughter was born…and two months later…died. I begged God for glimpses of grace and moments of remembering. And He did just that…through butterflies.

Oh friend, I dove in deep. I purchased the everything butterfly books and began memorizing them all. I could…and still can…easily identify most of them and give you their scientific names as well. I decorated with them and had jewelry with them and hung ceramic replicas all over our home and on our Christmas tree. Butterflies were in full bloom.

But it wasn’t just because God chose to use them to bring me peace…He also used them to remind me of His redeeming plan. Of how my pain is only temporary and my grief will not last long. He used them, especially in the early days, to comfort me…and then, as time went on, to show me that He delights in me.
